They completed a selection process, an English test and, finally, were selected to take part in this Administrative Management course, which began in April last year. After more than 800 teaching hours, last Friday they closed this period with a smile on their faces and looking forward to new job opportunities. "This course has been very satisfactory, and I am very happy", said Francisco Ríos, a student, who added that his objective "is to continue in the administration area, either in a company or in the town hall".
Laura Jarauta has found this course very rewarding and fulfilling: "The objective now is to look for a job in the administration field and if there is an opportunity to continue with the training".
Last Friday, the delegate for employment of the Junta de Andalucía, Carmen Sánchez, the mayoress of the municipality, Ana Mata (PP), and the councillor for employment, Juan Carlos Maldonado (PMP) accompanied them on their last day, and presented them with the certificate of professionalism of this course financed with State funds, in which the Junta de Andalucía and the Mijas town hall are collaborating. "They have been offered a training very appropriate to the needs of the labour market, girls and boys who have studied management and languages, such as English, which is essential in the area where we live here on the Costa del Sol", said the delegate for employment of the Junta de Andalucía, Carmen Sánchez, who added that "it has been a very pleasant experience to see the excited faces of all these students who have completed a training project, a certificate of professionalism, which qualifies them and guarantees that they have acquired the necessary knowledge to develop a profession".
The mayoress pointed out the importance of these types of courses for young people, which "guide those people who, due to personal circumstances, have not continued their studies or have had a break", and who thanks to these programmes "have the opportunity to continue their training with the aim of finding a job that meets the conditions demanded by the labour market"; she encouraged all of them to "take advantage of this opportunity to face a new challenge, that of employability".
And, as the councillor pointed out, Mijas currently has more than 6,000 people looking for a job; from the town hall, "we intend that these 6,000 people have, first, the opportunity to be trained for the job they want to choose and, above all, that they are employed".
For a year, fifteen young unemployed people have been able to qualify in English and administration activities, alternating training with professional practice, thanks to the investment of the regional government, 398,539.32 euros. "In the latest call for Employment and Training, we have doubled the budget for the province with 32.9 million euros, which will help 1,203 people to improve their training and employability", said Sánchez.
More courses, more training
For his part, the councillor for Employment of the Mijas town hall emphasised that "training is essential to be able to compete in this difficult market" and said that, after the success of this program, "we have doubled the effort, for this year 2024 we have requested two courses of employment and training of the Junta de Andalucía so that 30 students have the opportunity to train in the same conditions in tourism promotion and another in management and customer service that in our municipality have many professional opportunities”.
He also reported that "from Fomento del Empleo, we are still eager to give all the contribution in terms of training to our young people and applicants and we have applied for an important program through the European Social Fund, which allows 300 people from 2024 to 2026 to be part of the training itineraries that are also necessary for the insertion of the labour market".
Internships at the town hall
All of them have done tutored internships at the Mijas town hall. "There they have applied the skills they have seen in the certificate", said the director of the Mijas Forma programme, Pilar Manso, who thanked "the tutors who have had our students in the different departments and for the way they have welcomed and taught them in these offices”.
For example, Ríos was assigned to the Seniors department where, he says, "I have had a great time, working with them, I have made records of registrations and cancellations and I have helped as much as I could, with all the programmes they have taught me and the training they have given me here".
Like her colleague, Jarauta has been very happy with her posting: "I have been in the Social Services area, where I have been in charge of everything related to the agenda, appointments, records of procedures and, to be honest, I have been very well supported by my colleagues".
During all these months, they have been paid a salary corresponding to the minimum wage and have received training in human resources, accounting, customer service, office automation, treasury, among others, as well as completing a specific English course to obtain the A2.
