Mijas Town Hall and Acosol, in collaboration with the residents of the area, are promoting these works

Acosol, the public water company, is carrying out the necessary works so that the residents of the Majadilla del Muerto can have networks that guarantee their water supply. This was announced by the mayoress, Ana Mata (PP), the president of the Association of Municipalities of the Western Costa del Sol, Manuel Cardeña, and the managing director of Acosol, Matilde Mancha, during a visit to the area where the work is being carried out, which started on January 29th. The works are scheduled to be completed in eight months, have an investment of 1,262,369.32 euros and, according to the community, "are progressing at a good pace". The works are being carried out by Acosol, which has provided funding that will be fully paid by the residents in installments.

  • Las obras cuentan con una inversión de 1.262.000 euros y contemplan una estación de bombeo, la red de distribución y un depósito de regulación.

The mayoress explained that this action responds to a "historical demand" of the residents of this area of Mijas, as until now they did not have this type of infrastructure. "Some 230 homeowners are going to benefit from this work, residents who have been requesting this essential supply for years. We are very satisfied with the development of this project. It demonstrates once again what this government team always says: collaboration between administrations is essential for progress", said Mata. She continued by pointing out that the town hall will continue to work to encourage the different districts of Mijas to have this type of infrastructure.

  • El Ayuntamiento ha actuado como nexo entre los vecinos y Acosol para llevar a cabo estas obras, que, aseguran, se realizarán en otros diseminados de Mijas.

Among the most important points, the project includes the pumping of water by means of a pumping station, a distribution network, a regulating reservoir, soil moving and paving.

Cardeña emphasised the importance and need to undertake these works as "the aim of this action is to provide a supply to the residents in order to guarantee the quality and healthiness of the water for domestic consumption, and at the same time, to avoid the depletion of the underground aquifers from which many of them draw their water supply". He also highlighted the value of this type of intervention, which could not be carried out without the collaboration of the town council: "Like us, they prioritise improvements for citizens and the environment, because once the works are completed, the Majadilla del Muerto will no longer have to be supplied from aquifers". Cardeña also thanked the residents, as they will be the ones who will finally pay the cost of the work (1.2 million euros advanced by Acosol and which, gradually, will be paid by the residents).

Finally, Mancha explained that "the initiative involves the construction of a general supply system consisting of a catchment system to Acosol's supply system, impulsion and a regulating tank of 350 cubic metres, located to the north of the housing estate, from which all homes will be supplied, mainly by gravity".

This is one of the actions to improve and create new water infrastructures being carried out by Acosol as the company operating the low water supply in the municipality of Mijas.
