The councillor for Public Safety, Juan Carlos Cuevas Dawson (Vox), announced that the 092 number is now operational to contact the Mijas Local Police. So calling 952 46 08 08 will no longer be necessary, although it will continue to be operative.
"This number [092] has geolocation, if a neighbour calls from a mobile phone and if they call from a landline their location will be identified automatically through the postcode, this can be used for emergencies such as street fights, attempted robbery, small accidents”, explained Cuevas Dawson, who stated that they started working on the implementation of this service "in January with the IT department and it is now operational for the first time in Mijas".
He also reminded that, for emergencies, citizens can call 112, which provides assistance in seven languages. "They [112] via Mensatel communicate with the Guardia Civil, with the local police, with 061, with the 080 fire brigade and are very effective", explained the councillor, who pointed out that "112 is for emergencies, whenever there is an injury or a fire".
The councillor also informed that this information will be sent to the Association of Property Administrators so that their professionals can inform residents living in communities about the new phone number.
