On April 20th the traditional Equestrian Route through the Sierra de Mijas will take place, which this year celebrates its 20th anniversary. For this special day, the Mijas town hall, through the Department of Livestock, has organised a carefully planned route that will start at 9 a.m. from El Esparragal and will finish at the same point at around 15:00, where there will be a lunch.

This was announced by the Councillor for Livestock, Eloy Belmonte (Vox), who, accompanied by Juan López-Ayala, president of the Peña Caballista Mijeña, partner organisation of this year's edition, gave details of the event and indicated that the registration period is now open. Those interested in participating can register by calling 670 066 075 and 635 976 703.

During his speech, Belmonte highlighted the quality of the natural environment of Mijas, especially the Sierra de Mijas, and stressed that events like this "promote respect, care and love for animals, and raise awareness for such a wealthy and sensitive habitat as the Sierra de Mijas".

The starting point of this equestrian route will be El Esparragal to continue along Río Pasadas, el Santiaguillo, Campito, Entrerríos hostel, los Mercegales, las Matanzas area, Camorro and back along the same route. The route is almost 26 kilometres in total, with stops for grouping and resting. The route will end with lunch and a ribbon race in which children and adults can take part.

Safety

To guarantee safety, the organisers have planned the attendance of an emergency vet, as well as a farrier and a back-up car, in addition to the civil protection teams who will ensure that the route runs smoothly. In previous editions, 60 to 80 horses participated, which is why the organisers are confident that this year's event will be a success.

"The equestrian route through the Sierra de Mijas is one of the most beautiful routes and is a meeting point, not only for horse lovers, but for anyone who respects and values the environment", said Juan López-Ayala.

Both the councillor and the president of the Peña Caballista Mijeña have recalled "the relevance and presence that the equestrian world has in Mijas, as it is one of the municipalities in Spain with the largest number of horses, which shows the cultural, touristic and economic wealth of the sector. Proof of this was the route along the beach that took place last February and which was a total success, with 325 horses taking part, in addition to the horse-drawn carriages, the highest attendance rate ever recorded". Horse-drawn carriages are also invited to take part in the route, as long as they have the right characteristics to climb the Camorro.
