The Animal Welfare Department is running a campaign to remind that this comes into effect from September

Mijas Town Hall, through the Animal Welfare Department, is promoting a campaign to remind that Mijas is an animal friendly municipality and that, after the approval of the Law for the Protection of the Rights and Welfare of Animals (7/2023), dogs are allowed to enter municipal buildings, as stated in Chapter II, article 29. 7., which states that "Town Councils shall promote access to beaches, parks and other public spaces for those pets that do not constitute a risk to people, other animals or things. Without detriment to their access to these and other spaces, the municipalities will in any case determine places specifically set aside for the recreation of pets, particularly of the canine species".

The councillor for Animal Welfare, Marco Cortés (PP), pointed out that there are around 27,000 dogs registered in our town and they are promoting this campaign in accordance with the new law. "With this campaign we want to raise public awareness of respect and the right to animal welfare, that they are one of us, family members, and therefore can accompany us in everything", he said.

  • David Gutiérrez se puso a trabajar y a formar a Bobby para integrarlo en un novedoso programa internacional, denominado READ (Reading Education Assitance Dogs).

In addition to having access to the municipal facilities, pets weighing up to 10 kilos will also be able to board bus lines M-119, M-156, M-222 and M-223. "All pets can get on public transport in Mijas, as well as enter the Town Hall and branch offices to make any paperwork as explained in the promotional video", added Cortés, who also stressed that our town has three dog parks and Bobby, the police dog. "There are three recreational parks in our town, the one at Avenida María Zambrano, in Las Lagunas, at Avenida Mare Nostrum in La Cala or the one in Calahonda, which is one of the largest in Europe (St. Don José Orbaneja) and little by little, the Town Hall is planning to expand and improve these facilities".

Finally, he stressed how beneficial it is for families to have a pet: "These animals help many people, they become part of our lives and we have to integrate them into our daily lives", concluded the councillor.
