  • The procedure will be applied to projects such as social housing developments or those that contribute to the enhancement of the popular architecture

All cases must be based on public interest grounds

The councillor for Town Planning at the Mijas Town Hall, Lourdes Burgos (PP), informed this Tuesday that the department has issued an instruction establishing the criteria for priority processing and speeding up the procedures for the granting of licences. Burgos highlighted some of the cases in which this priority processing will be applicable, "as stated in the current legislation, which is the Law on Common Administrative Procedure for Public Administrations, it is possible to establish exceptions to the strict order of initiation in the course of the files. In all cases, this must be based on public interest grounds, which is why we have defined the circumstances in which this priority processing may be applied with the aim of speeding up, simplifying and reducing the time taken to resolve licensing proceedings", said the councillor for Town Planning.

The instruction determines a total of seven cases in which the priority processing order may be justified:  public or private development of subsidised housing; projects for the renovation and modernisation of hotel facilities intended to improve the category of the establishment; projects for works on buildings and facilities intended for the thermal use of renewable energy in housing, the installation of self-consumption of renewable energy of up to 100kw and the installation of electric vehicle charging points; public or private facilities; projects that contribute to the economic and social growth of the municipality and whose execution budget is more than five million euros or that provide direct employment for more than 50 people and projects that contribute to the enhancement of the popular architecture of the municipality in which the integration of the building in the urban fabric and landscape is established, "what we are going to do is to give priority to those that contribute to maintaining the architectural quality of the municipality, those that maintain the essence of the Andalusian Mediterranean village, that are not a pastiche. These are going to be the priority projects for this government team", said the Town Planning councillor. Finally, the procedures will also be speeded up in the case of those construction works or activities which, due to their strategic, social, economic or touristic nature, have been declared a priority by the Local Government Board.

It will be the Town Planning department itself that will prioritise the procedure of the files according to the previously established criteria. "We have taken an important step in improving the services we offer to citizens, speeding up this matter as much as possible. In fact, in the instruction we have determined that the necessary measures will be taken to speed up and simplify all these procedures as much as possible because we understand that these are very important projects for the progress of Mijas", concluded Burgos.
