On Tuesday 26th of March AFA Mijas officially presented its project to the Rotary Club Mijas International. The international entity collaborates regularly with the local association and with this meeting they put a face to the representatives of the Alzheimer’s Association of Mijas.
“We are with the Rotary Club Mijas International because they have been supporting us for some time now in helping people with Alzheimer’s and their families”, says María Rosario Cabello, president of the Mijas Association of Relatives and Alzheimer’s Patients.
AFA Mijas spoke during the meeting about the social work they do and the importance of the donations they receive, the awareness-raising talks are also important. “So far they have donated us breakfasts for a year, a crane for the bathroom and with this meeting the aim was to spread and raise awareness about Alzheimer’s disease and to tell how we can help families here, most of those present are foreign residents and cannot access state aid,” Cabello emphasises.
AFA Mijas runs a workshop in La Cala, which is attended mostly by foreigners, hence the thanks and support. “In La Cala de Mijas we have a workshop and most of them are foreigners, mostly British, although some Spaniards also attend, also in the day centre we have several users of different nationalities, Italians, British”. During the lunch on Tuesday, donations were also collected to continue helping AFA Mijas in its important work.
