The Mijas Handball Cup is back. Organised by the Club Balonmano (Handball Club) Colegio San Francisco de Asís Mijas, it will be held from the 24th to the 27th of March and teams from the local club and Balonmano Pinto de Madrid will compete. "We want it to be as enjoyable as possible for all the participants, to make it as good as possible for everyone", explained the club's president, Maribel Cuevas, at the presentation of this year's edition. The event also has the collaboration of the Mijas Town Hall, "from the Town Hall, from the Sports area we are very happy that they are back with an activity that they did years ago, and I think it is very valuable for players to celebrate a few days of coexistence here in Mijas", said the councillor for Sports, Mari Francis Alarcón (PP).
The Mijas Handball Cup 2024 will bring together more than 350 players from different categories. The club from Madrid participates with a total of four teams (one female infantile, one female cadet and two male cadets), while the club from Mijas completes the teams with three female infantile, three female cadets and two male cadets. The competition will start on Sunday 24th. "On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday mornings the matches will be played on the courts of the Las Cañadas sports centre and on Sunday 24th, when the teams from Pinto arrive, as well as on Monday and Tuesday afternoons, we will play beach handball in La Cala, near the Gran Hotel Vik Costa del Sol", explained the club's vice-president and coach, Chema Jiménez.
Coexistence
The Mijas Handball Cup was held for the last time, after a great success of participation, in 2013, "this is a relaunch of what was done some time ago and we are sure that next season, with the possibility of going with more time to other clubs, the call effect will be bigger again", said Jimenez. The Handball Club Colegio San Francisco de Asis is very clear about the goal of this event "to have a coexistence with all the players, with all the families, to have a great time, to enjoy playing and competing, in short, a very interesting day for us", said Cuevas. "I encourage people who want to see good handball to come to the pavilion of Las Cañadas and the beaches of Mijas to see these kids and those who come here to spend these days of coexistence from Sunday until Wednesday during Holy Week", concluded the Sports councillor.
