Education and Health offer us tools to educate from the heart

  • In April the municipal departments will speak about school bullying
  • La charla fue impartida por Ana Belén García, psicóloga del área de Sanidad.

The talk given this Tuesday at the Employment Promotion building is part of the 'Encuentro con las familias (Meeting with families)' cycle

Greek philosopher Aristotle said that "Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all". Emotion is essential for learning, because a child who properly handles his or her emotions learns more and better, they say, because without emotion there is no curiosity, no attention, and therefore no learning. For this reason, the municipal programme 'Meeting with the family' has started the year with the talks 'Educating with the heart'. Today the second meeting was held in the ‘Fomento del Empleo’ (Employment Promotion) building, with the participation of around twenty parents.  "It is important that families get involved and come to these talks. To educate ourselves, in the sense of learning how to treat our children in our day-to-day lives", said the councillor for Education, Melisa Ceballos (PP), during the activity.

These talks become spaces where families can share experiences, objectives and concerns. Emotions are sometimes not considered enough, but it is essential to be aware of them, "to accept them, to help children to express themselves, to create a safe family climate, but also with limits", explained the psychologist from the Health Department, Ana Belén García, who gave the talk.

  • Han participado una veintena de padres y madres.

Knowing our emotions is as important as learning to control them, because if we deal with emotions today, tomorrow the incidence of problems derived from emotions will be reduced, "because we learn to control them as we mature, but also through example, containment and management. Parents have to be vigilant and avoid prolonging unpleasant feelings such as impotence, frustration, melancholy or sadness, because they can be a symptom of a problem that has not yet surfaced and that the child is asking us for help to resolve", added García.

An increasing number of families are taking part in these meetings in which, above all, they are provided with tools to deal with the situations that arise in our day-to-day lives as parents. "The truth is that I love them, I see them as very necessary and I always leave here, firstly, comforted, knowing that the situations I experience with my children are within the normal range and, secondly, I leave here with ideas and ways to improve parenting and all the situations in which I don't know what to do, now that I have options", said Carmen Ruiz, one of the participating mothers. "Family relationships are important because that is what makes our children become successful people in the future", concluded the councillor for Education.

The series 'Meetings with families' will continue in April, where the important issue of bullying will be addressed. The Education and Health departments are also planning to organise a day of coexistence for parents and children who are taking part in this initiative.
