The Holy Week in Mijas 2024 is around the corner, and to make the wait more enjoyable, the Mijas Town Hall has organised the traditional Lenten Concert, which will take place this Sunday 17th at Cortijo Don Elías in Las Lagunas, with the participation of both the Mijas Music Band and Las Lagunas Music Group.
The event will start at 12:00 hours and will be a preview of what these bands are preparing for Holy Week.
"The Mijas Music Band and the Las Lagunas Music Group will offer their typical repertoire of marches, so that we can spend a pleasant morning with their company and with good music", highlighted the councillor of the UP, Melisa Ceballos (PP).
Both groups have already started rehearsals, not only for this Sunday's concert, but also for the upcoming Holy Week. It is common knowledge that Lent is one of the most intense and awaited periods for these musicians. "We live it very intensely, it is true that we end up very tired, but when we like something, in the end it is a pleasure to do it, even if it is many days in a row, many hours in a row, and your body feels it", said Javier Sedeño, spokesman for the group from Las Lagunas.
For his part, Francisco Valcárcel, director of the Mijas Band, said that they started rehearsals "after Christmas, as each Easter we try to incorporate a lot of new pieces and a few new compositions of our own". In this regard, the band has already announced on its social media that this Sunday they will premiere their new march 'Atado a tu columna', a piece composed by the director of the band and dedicated, on this occasion, to the Cofradía del Cristo de la Columna of Mijas Pueblo.
