In March work will begin to revise the land registry on site

The Mijas tax payment calendar for 2024 will begin on the 5th of March, when the first instalment of the Property Tax (IBI) will be sent to those citizens who have paid by direct debit and who, for this reason, receive a 5% discount.

This first delivery in those cases in which they have direct debit will be on April 5th in the case of the rubbish tax and on May 6th for the road tax (IVTM) and other minor taxes such as: occupation of the public thoroughfare with tables and chairs, donkey taxi, occupation of the public thoroughfare with kiosks, fords, loading and unloading, municipal market and ATMs.

Ninety days after the first remittance, a second one will be made "for citizens who have returned the first one or for those who have requested direct debit during the previous months of 2024", explained the councillor responsible for Economy and Finance, Mario Bravo (PP), who wanted to clarify that "the amounts of all taxes and fees are the same as last year, unless there have been modifications to the property or a revision of its value for some reason".

Bravo also wanted to clarify that although the Town Hall is making "every effort to comply with these dates scrupulously, it is possible that some receipts may arrive later, especially those that go to foreign accounts".

The collection of rates and taxes accounts for a large part of municipal income. The councillor explained that in the case of IBI, for example, 42 million euros are expected to be collected and 6.5 million euros in the case of rubbish tax, both domestic and commercial. "These two amounts are not adjusted to the cent because they will continue to change, not because the amount of taxes will rise, but because the number of homes will increase", he said. There are 58,191 IBI receipts, for a total of 24,933,600.95, one million euros more than last year.

Cadastral revision

Bravo also announced that the Town Hall is collaborating with the land registry to carry out a review plan "which is not an inspection because it will not carry a fine, but we are reviewing 1,400 differences between what is seen in the aerial photos and what appears in the land registry and, if there are any, we will inform the owner of the possible modification, which may be an addition or a reduction".

In this regard, the councillor explained that IBI receipts can be cancelled because small buildings have been demolished and others can be added because buildings such as garages or swimming pools have been built.
