Mijas boasts mountains, sea and being one of the municipalities in Andalusia with the largest number of horses. Taking advantage of these factors, the Department for Livestock, with the collaboration of the Peña Caballista Mijeña, is organising the eighth edition of the Equestrian Route along the beach. The event will take place on Saturday 9th of March. "We want to give the equestrian world, and especially the horses in our municipality, the importance it deserves", said the Mijas Livestock councillor, Eloy Belmonte (Vox), who added: "we will support all the initiatives that come from the Peña Caballista and any other association that wants to collaborate with us". The councillor stressed that "we also want to give vital importance to our rural environment and the natural surroundings of our municipality".

These are some of the objectives that drive and sustain this unique equestrian route that unites countryside, city and beach; and that values an important part of Mijas, "it is a cultural, economic and tourist asset, which is under-exploited by us, we have to take more care of this world", said the president of the Peña Caballista Mijeña, Juan López-Ayala. Regarding the event, López-Ayala pointed out that "we don't have the opportunity to ride along the beach as we can do here in Mijas, either on the Costa del Sol or in the province".

The Town Hall also stresses that it is a day of coexistence with friends and family, "it is about spending time with the children, teaching them about our culture and traditions and teaching them how to treat animals, not to harm them", said Belmonte.

The event will take place on Saturday, 9th of March, at 9:30 hours at Finca La Alberquilla, behind Venta La Morena, at 10:00 hours the route will depart for the area of Finca El Ahogadero, the equestrian entourage will continue to the area of El Chaparral and from there it will arrive at around midday at the beach of La Cala. This year the event will include the services of a support vehicle, an emergency vet and a blacksmith, the time on the beach will be extended to two hours and a lunch will be offered by the Peña Caballista Mijeña, while the Peña Flamenca El Sur will collaborate with a flamenco show. "We also want to unite the collaboration between associations of the municipality, framing everything within our municipality's typical culture", explained the councillor for Livestock.

In the last edition this route had over 200 participants, "probably this year we will exceed this number and in any case it will be fun, we will spend a great day with the animals that we love and with friends", concluded López-Ayala. To take part in the VIII Equestrian Route along the beach it is essential to register in advance. Those interested can do so by calling 635 976 703 and 670 066 075.
