As every year, and this is the 47th, the beach season is brought forward to the month of February with the celebration of the Exploplaya exhibition of hotels and beach equipment, organised by the 'Federación Nacional de Empresarios de Playas' (Fesempla). The event was held at the Fair and Congress Hall in Torremolinos. With more than a dozen establishments along its 12 kilometres of coastline, Mijas was present at this event. "We must also boast having a coastline worthy of praise and the work we do every day to be a sun and beach destination in accordance with the needs of the new operators in the tourism sector", said the mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata (PP), during her visit to Expoplaya.
Mijas has 14 chiringuitos that work 365 days a year, hence the importance of this type of fairs and events for them. Expoplaya has offered a large commercial exhibition area where the latest developments in the sector have been presented, both in terms of gastronomy and beach equipment, walkways, pergolas, nautical facilities, as well as digitalisation and telecommunications. This space also serves to promote business meetings between members and leading companies in the sector. "We are seeing new technologies that are also reaching the beaches, as well as the public, and the truth is that they are welcome. As well as the issue of suppliers, who offer new things and want to put them in value and what better than on our coast and we are also a benchmark in the issue of beaches", said the councillor for Beaches, Daniel Gómez Teruel (PP), who also attended the event along with the councillor for the Environment, Marco Cortés (PP). "I think that this type of fair is very good for this joint work, not only for the business sector, but also for the public administrations to come together and between all of us we can provide the best conditions, in this case, our destination, Mijas Costa. The goal is that in this sector we are also a reference destination", added the mayoress of Mijas.
Institutional support
According to the organisers and the institutions that support it, Expoplaya has become the largest beach business fair in Andalusia, where the innovations to be implemented in the establishments of the Andalusian coastline are presented. "It is a great honour for us that the 'Palacio de Congresos y Ferias de Torremolinos' continues to be committed to holding this important congress", said the mayoress of Torremolinos, Margarita del Cid (PP). Meanwhile, the Andalusian Regional Government and the Malaga Provincial Council highlight the sun and beach segment as the most important part of the tourism industry in the region, with a great capacity for evolution and which accounts for more than 60% of the tourists who visit us. "Sun and beach tourism has been able to adapt, to qualify over the years, to become a successful model that we are able to export to other parts of Spain and the world", said the Counsellor for Tourism, Culture and Sport of the Andalusian Regional Government, Arturo Bernal (PP), while the President of the Provincial Council, Francisco Salado (PP), stressed that this sector is "very significant in the tourism industry, not only in the months of June, July and August, but in the rest of the months. The specific weight of the sun and beach industry is fundamental". Finally, Norberto del Castillo, the president of Fesempla, the organiser of the exhibition, thanked the different administrations and participating entrepreneurs for their support and concluded by pointing out that "sun and beach tourism in Andalusia is the real driving force".
The organisers estimate that today around 3,000 people have visited the exhibition, which aims to give visibility to the sun and beach sector, as well as to position this fair as the most important event in the world of sun and beach tourism.
