Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Charlie Parker, Miles Davis and Ella Fitzgerald have been some of the figures who have made jazz great. With the aim of spreading jazz history from its origins to the present day, the Centre for the Arts and Modern Music of Malaga (ELCAMM) will present its show 'The untold story of jazz' in Mijas on the 1st of March, which is on its third tour.
Thanks to the Diputación Provincial de Málaga, La Térmica, and the Culture Department of Mijas, this project will come to the Manuel España Theatre in La Laguna next Friday, 1st of March at 20:00 hours.
"It is a very interesting activity, very participatory, for all audiences, very familiar, around jazz, a musical genre not very popular. They are able to make it enjoyable, attractive, and above all, that people are hooked," said the Councillor for Culture, Juan Carlos Maldonado (PMP), who thanked the Provincial Council for its commitment to such events and make them come to our town "as they give us the opportunity to enjoy this show for free at the Manuel España Theatre".
The provincial deputy of Education, José Santaolalla, said that "we will live a musical event, for the whole family, unique, very funny and we encourage all Mijeños to come on March 1st to this theatre to experience this performance".
The proposal
Under the direction of Tete Leal, musician, composer and founder of ELCAMM, 'The untold story of jazz' comes to our town with the aim of bringing the history of jazz to children and adults from a dynamic and interactive perspective, they say, "encouraging respect and enjoyment for live music".
On stage, more than thirty musicians and a narrator will tell us the history of this music genre in an entertaining, but above all musical, way. "We got the children to direct the Wind Ensemble, to sing with the gospel choir, in a super-fun way", Leal pointed out.
The reception of the show in other parts of the province, as the director points out, "has been spectacular and it fills up every time we do it".
Classics such as 'Sing, Sing, Sing, Sing!', 'When the Saints Go Marching In' and 'In the Mood' are a way to understand the musical influences that have shaped the genre. From the African rhythms and spirituals of the cotton fields to the Dixieland of New Orleans, the Latin rhythms of Cuban sounds and the unforgettable soundtracks of Hollywood, the musical journey will cover the most significant milestones of jazz.
