Around 360 students ran in a cross country competition which took place this Tuesday in the surroundings of St. Anthony's School, which was in charge of the organisation. This is the fourth year that this event has been held. Students from 10 schools from the coast of Malaga and Cádiz, including St. Anthony's, Aloha, Laude and ATLAS participated.
The circuit, which surrounded the school, included numerous hills and twists and turns, making the race a great challenge for the children. "The youngest run two kilometres and the older ones five. It's a test of endurance, a tough test, there is a final slope that is very hard, as some of the children have already told me", said Alfonso Arriaga, a physical education teacher and organiser of the event. Silvia Rivas, one of the participants agreed, "there are many slopes and at the end there is one that is quite complicated, but you can do it".
A total of six races were held, three for women and three for men, divided into three age categories. In addition, health services and police were on hand to ensure the safety of the children.
Even though the first to reach the finish line received trophies and medals, what the children took away from this experience goes beyond that: "Everyone wants to win, wants to compete, but that's not the most important thing, in the end this is an event in which all the schools come together, they all make friends, they all know each other from other competitions and the truth is that it's wonderful", concluded Arriaga.
