The Western Costa del Sol will see its supply of drinking water increase by up to 16 hm³ in the coming months following the approval of the new drought decree of the Junta de Andalucía, the fourth one promoted by the Andalusian government to speed up the necessary works to combat the drought. The Mancomunidad and Acosol are celebrating the launch of these investments, for which, they emphasise, "they are already working together with the Andalusian administration".
Acosol reports that this decree incorporates several of the actions planned by the Junta de Andalucía to be carried out with its collaboration, such as the extension of the Marbella desalination plant. After the emergency improvements that are currently being carried out to increase the plant from 6 to 12 hm³, the new decree incorporates its expansion to 20 hm³, either with an extension of racks or with the incorporation of a portable desalination plant. In addition, there are other actions planned, such as the boreholes in the Fuengirola and Guadalmansa rivers (Estepona), where the installation of desalination plants is planned, which will ensure up to 8 hm³. In addition to these works, there is another series of actions such as the optimisation and improvement of the facilities at the Concepción reservoir to maximise its use.
