Agents of the National Police and Mossos d'Esquadra of the Aran Valley and Alta Ribagorça Investigation Unit have arrested three people, two men aged 29 and 38, and a woman aged 39, in Almeria, Mijas and Torremolinos, who are accused of drug trafficking and belonging to a criminal group.
On December 12, the investigators carried out two entries and searches in the towns of Roquetas de Mar and Almería, where they seized 5,000 euros in cash, receipts for money transfers abroad, a bulletproof vest, electronic tracking devices to trace drug shipments, mobile phones and other evidence linking the detainees to the preparation and execution of the intercepted drug shipment.
On December 27th, investigators arrested another suspect in Vielha, a 46-year-old man, allegedly linked to the drug shipment.
Vehicle with hashish and marijuana
On September 11th 2022, the Mossos located a vehicle loaded with 41 kilograms of marijuana and 29 kilograms of hashish, which was parked in the car park of the Paradero de Vielha. The suspects had left it following the route from Andalusia to the final destination of the drugs, northern European countries. As part of the police action, agents from the Aran Valley and Alta Ribagorça Investigation Unit arrested a 35-year-old woman who arrived at the scene to pick up the parked vehicle.
At this point, an investigation was launched with the aim of identifying the other people responsible for this transport. As a result of the first steps taken, and given that the persons under investigation resided outside Catalonia, a Joint Investigation Team was set up between the Mossos d'Esquadra and the Drugs and Organised Crime Unit (Udyco) of the Torremolinos-Benalmádena National Police. The joint work of the two police forces led to the identification of the persons under investigation and the location of the addresses in Roquetas de Mar and Almería.
The investigators worked on the hypothesis that those under investigation were loading vehicles with hashish and marijuana with which they travelled to northern European countries to sell the drugs.
Role of the detainees
The role of those arrested was basically logistical. They were in charge of managing the transport of the drug shipment, either driving the car carrying the drugs, or carrying out counter-surveillance tasks to avoid police controls or assaults by other criminal organisations.
