Avatés ended the year by organising a Christmas dinner on December 28th to thank its members for their collaboration and work throughout the year. The group presented an orchid and a plaque to its president and founder, Pepi Moya.
"The year has been very hard, we are exhausted, every day we receive families and people with all kinds of difficulties. As we take care of the rent for some families, we now seek out villages with small populations where the prices are more affordable for us. We don't stop", explains Moya.
María Ramírez's dancing and the emotional speech by one of the members, Roque Carlos Durán, made the dinner special, who expressed what Avatés has given him and how it has changed his life. The association, created during the pandemic, then helped the health workers in their hard work, and has continued with their efforts and the help of many volunteers.
"Almost every day we find work for people who arrive desperate, usually in catering and cleaning, it's a way for them to start and get out of their precarious situation. We also make new members every day, today we have made seven new ones, but everything is done from the small kiosk in front of the Las Lagunas Health Centre, we don't have an office or anything, so there is no privacy for the cases that come to us", says Moya.
It is a very active group that has seen its association grow and extend its help, adapting to the daily needs of those who are going through a bad time, whether it is due to illness or the loss of a job.
"We had a great time at the dinner, which was attended by around 60 members, and we danced until the early hours of the morning, as we also have to enjoy ourselves", concludes Moya.
