In a provisional estimate, Infoca calculates that the fire in Las Lomas del Flamenco on Monday, January 1st, burnt around 9 hectares of scrubland. A group of forest firefighters and an environmental agent have been actively monitoring the area today.
In the early hours of the 1st of January another fire of lesser proportions broke out in Rancho de la Luz. It was a New Year's Eve marred by fire that mobilised Infoca and firefighters from Mijas, Málaga, Benalmádena, Fuengirola and Marbella. The Infoca is investigating the causes of both fires and one of the hypotheses that is gaining more strength is the use of fireworks during the celebration of the New Year.
