La Cala's charity stands turn into a Christmas market

  • During the festive season, the stalls are set up every Wednesday and Saturday on the Branch Office Square in La Cala

This is an initiative by the Department for Foreigners, with the collaboration of a dozen groups

The solidarity tables promoted by the Department for Foreigners in Mijas, as well as giving us the opportunity to get to know the work carried out by these groups, offer  a wide variety of items to give as gifts, especially at this time of year. A dozen social and animal welfare groups are taking part, all of them of a charitable nature.

The Domino association, in charge of rescuing dogs and finding them homes, also takes advantage of this event to ask for our collaboration, either with donations or with our time as volunteers, and, on the other hand, to encourage the adoption of animals. Last Saturday, for example, they brought one of the dogs looking for a family, "this is Zios, he is a little dog that we rescued and is up for adoption, he is looking for a family to adopt him", explained one of Domino's volunteers, Silvina Villaverde.

If we continue browsing the stalls, at the table of Diksha España, an association that is responsible for helping the most disadvantaged children in India, we find a wide variety of donated items, "we have earrings, jewellery, clothes... and if you want a sweet to celebrate Christmas, we also have it here", highlighted Aída Herrera, a member of this group, who added that "we try to raise funds to send the children so that they can have a quality education, because we believe that progress, peace and the future lie in education".

At the Donkey Dreamland stand we can also find typical holiday products, including calendars produced to raise funds for their shelter, where they rescue, rehabilitate and provide a home for abused or abandoned donkeys. "We are here to collect money and volunteers for Donkey Dreamland, we are in the Diseminado La Rosa, 79 in La Cala de Mijas", explained Wietse Haak, a volunteer of the group, who also pointed out that this month there is a large number of people.

The Mijas Department for Foreigners reminds us that the solidarity tables await us during the holidays on Wednesdays and Saturdays on the Branch Office Square in La Cala, from 11 to 14 hours.
