The Town Hall presents its XXV 'Muestra de Belenes Villa de Mijas' (Nativity Scene Display), a non-competitive event that aims to ensure that the nativity scene tradition is not lost among associations, groups and families. It smells like Christmas in the municipality, soon the streets will be dressed in their best attire with the Christmas lights and families are preparing their Christmas decorations. To ensure that the popular tradition of setting up the nativity scene is not lost, the Town Hall continues to organise its non-competitive nativity scene display.
All associations, clubs, brotherhoods, schools and educational centres, as well as private families living in the municipality, are invited to participate in the exhibition. There are three categories for participation: associations, clubs and brotherhoods; schools and families.
According to the councillor for Culture, Juan Carlos Maldonado (PMP), " with this event we encourage participants to defend our traditions. Our nativity scenes in Mijas are deeply rooted and there are many who take part. This year we are going to recognise all those who register with a participatory diploma and also with a documentary that Mijas Comunicación will produce about these nativity scenes. In short, this is one more reason to be enthusiastic and to live this Christmas in a participative manner. Let's not forget that Mijas always gets involved in its Christmas and so do our groups".
Registrations can be made at the Folk Museum, at the Las Lagunas Cultural Centre and at the La Cala Cultural Centre, by email to cultura@mijas.es, or by telephone on 952 590 380. The deadline for registration is December 11th, specifying the address where the nativity scene is installed.
The Department for Culture will publish a map showing the location of the nativity scenes and visiting hours, which will take place between December 15th and January 5th. Participants must open the doors of their nativity scenes to visitors for at least 3 hours a day during this period. All participants will receive a diploma accrediting their participation and will be included in the documentary produced by Mijas Comunicación which will cover the whole route called Camino de Belén.
"From the 15th of December until the 5th of January you will be able to visit these nativity scenes and it will be a reason for the neighbours to get together, and we also encourage coexistence as we always do in Mijas", said the councillor.
