In the ordinary plenary session held this morning at the Mijas Town Hall, the government team has denounced the existence of 1,909 unpaid invoices, totalling 15,943,186.87 euros as of the 31st of October 2023. "How can we go on television boasting that there are 115 million euros and at the same time owe 16 million euros to people who have fulfilled their work, their obligation, who have trusted that this Town Hall was going to pay them and it has not done so?" asked the councillor for Finance, Mario Bravo (PP).
In response, the socialist spokesman and ex-councillor for Economy, Roy Pérez, replied that these 1,900 invoices do not represent even 7 percent of the total Budget for 2023, "and they are all being processed, as reflected by the comptroller, so they can be brought to the plenary session when they are audited and their payments can be approved", he justified.
The popular councillor stressed that this fact "does not surprise the government team, because the maximum period for payment of invoices has been breached since June 2015, that is, since the PP lost the Mayor's office". In this regard, he reported that the average payment period to suppliers in September was 72 days, when the maximum is 30, so he pledged to reduce this figure in the coming months.
He also affirmed that his government team will offer all its services with a prior contract, "because the phrase 'without contract' has been attached to the PSOE's biography for all these years. This is one of the commitments we made in our no confidence motion and which we are going to amend", he stressed.
Transparency
It will be a change, he went on to explain, that will be visible to all citizens, because the government team will publish this information to show how the Town Hall works and what taxpayers' money is spent on. "We are going to try to abide by the regulations, pay on time and also comply with the Law on Default, and I insist that it is not a problem of money but a problem of the process of spending contracting, which can be improved", he argued.
The spokesman for Ciudadanos, José Carlos Martín, also considered it necessary to provide this type of information, "and for it to be a tool that is at the service of everyone, so that we can know the real and effective cost of the services we provide from this administration".
Tax Collection Board
The ordinary plenary session also included several economic and urbanistic files, and approved the addendum to the inter-administrative agreement between the Provincial Collection Board and the Mijas Town Hall regarding the management of Local Police fines.
