A group from Soroptimist International Costa del Sol took part last Saturday in the march called for 25N, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. For the president of the group, Daphne Theunissen, it is important to participate in this type of event: "We have been participating in the marches in Malaga for many years, more than 10, both on the 8th of March for Women's Day and on the 25th of November, as we have been in contact with the Zero Violence platform for a long time. It is essential to be at the march for the victims of gender violence, who number 50 or 60 people every year, and these are deaths that must be prevented".
Theunissen also considered that this gesture encourages women who are in danger, "as they can see that there are many people who are supporting them". "This kind of violence is not acceptable," said the president, who attended the march with other Soroptimist members. "We have to raise our voices. It is always important to participate in these marches in which the victims of this year's violence are remembered one by one. We named them and told people the date of the murder, where it happened and who did it, as many of them were killed by their partner or ex-partner. They are women of all ages, from 17 to 91 years old; that is also something important to listen to and talk about in women's groups", said Theunissen, who recalled that they have joined the 16 Days of Activism, initiated by UN Women in 1991.
In this campaign, which has as its slogan 'Spot the Signs', a sequence of daily messages, developed by the European Federation of Soroptimist International, are posted on Facebook and Instagram. The theme is the prevention of domestic violence by raising awareness of the signs of a toxic relationship.
