Mijas is one of the coastal towns in the province of Malaga with the highest number of German residents. That is why, for the first time, this year the municipality has joined the 4th German Film Week organised by SUR Deutsche Ausgabe together with the German Consulate in Malaga and the Goethe Institute in Madrid, and which is also sponsored by the Mijas Town Hall and the Malaga Provincial Council, among others. This year's festival, which runs from November 21st to 25th at the Cine Albéniz in Malaga, features films ranging from comedy to black humour, science fiction and tragicomedies. The award-winning 'Cielo Rojo' was the first film of the week in Malaga, and after passing through Torrox last Wednesday it arrived in Mijas on the afternoon of Thursday 23rd. The event was attended by the Vice Consul of Germany in Spain, Susanne Kempermann, who pointed out that "the consulate does a lot of things to promote our culture, and personally, I hope that it will become a tradition to extend this festival to the municipalities around Malaga, as they are places where there are many Germans".
The Plenary Hall of the Mijas Town Hall was the venue chosen to host the screening of the film 'Talking about the weather' (in German with Spanish subtitles), a film directed by Annika Pinske which tells the story of Clara, a girl who escapes from her East German province and begins to live an independent life in Berlin, In addition, as the director of Sur Deutsche Ausgabe, Uwe Scheel, said, "it deals with very interesting and very important current issues in Germany right now, such as the conflicts in society between the East and West 30 years after unification".
Also present at the screening was the councillor for Foreigners, Mario Bravo (PP), who recalled that "Mijas could not be left out of this initiative. As we know, our Town Hall was the first in Spain to create a Foreigners department, in fact in 2015 we celebrated its 30th anniversary, so the corporation has found it very useful to join this initiative".
The aim of this initiative is to serve as a bridge between the German and Spanish communities, as Uwe Scheele emphasised in conclusion: "We want to build bridges between the two cultures, that is, between the Spaniards who live here and the foreign residents, and that is what we try to do through our media and with the Cinema Week".
