Mijas joins the commemoration of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women with a programme of activities that remind us of the importance of 25N. Tomorrow, at 12:00 noon, the mayoress of the municipality, Ana Mata (PP), will proceed to read the manifesto approved in the plenary session of October 25th, 2023. She will be joined by members of the municipal corporation, members of the women's associations of the municipality, as well as Town Hall staff.
Once it is over, an institutional act will begin in the plenary hall of the Town Hall, in which the television spot produced to raise awareness against male violence and the documentary 'Yo puedo contarlo' (I can tell it), which, for the first time, will feature testimonies of victims and family members who have suffered this type of violence, will be screened. Both have been produced by Mijas Comunicación.
To conclude with the programme of activities prepared to vindicate 25N, the façade of the La Cala Branch Offices will be illuminated in purple on Saturday 25th from six in the evening until midnight.
Throughout the week, a series of activities are taking place in the municipality to raise awareness in which special emphasis has been placed on education among youths. One of them is the 'escape room' for the prevention of gender violence 'Put yourself in my place', which is taking place at Cortijo Don Elías (Las Lagunas) and is aimed at students in the 6th year of primary school. 1,100 students are expected to take part.
In addition, one hundred students in 3rd year of secondary education from the seven secondary schools in the municipality have been trained as equality mediators. The programme will prepare them as sentinels to prevent any type of gender-based violence within the school or in the students' environment.
On the other hand, the 15 members of staff of the Employment and Training Promotion Programme Mijas Forma have designed posters with motivational messages on the occasion of 25N. The Mijas Town Hall has installed the 25N Corner in the same building where they do their training to exhibit them until the 30th of November.
Finally, women's associations in Mijas, in collaboration with the Department of Equality and Diversity, have organised a series of activities. On Wednesday, under the slogan 'Conscious Walk', the Casa Luna Women's Circle Association organised a walk along the Senda Litoral (Coastal Path) from La Cala de Mijas to Calahonda.
On Friday 24th of November, the Nueva Cultura del Desarrollo Association organised a talk on 'Women today... what for and why?, which will be given by psychologists Desirée Infante and Marina Román. The talk will take place from 17:30 to 19:30 in the meeting room of the Social Services Centre in Las Lagunas.
