The Rotary Club Mijas International held a meeting this Tuesday on the occasion of the visit of the Governor of District 2203, José Ibáñez, to which Mijas belongs. The solidarity service association, according to its members, is the most important in the world, "it has 1.4 million members, spread over 200 countries", explained Ibáñez yesterday in Mijas. The Rotary representatives also visited the Mijas Town Hall.
District 2203 brings together 105 Rotary clubs from the communities of Valencia, Balearic Islands, Murcia, Andalusia, Ceuta and Melilla and has more than 2,200 members. The governor was received by the mayoress, Ana Mata (PP), and the councillor for Foreigners, Mario Bravo (PP). "The club here in Mijas is a club that has several nationalities, so it is an international club, which is very enriching because it brings together cultures from various countries, which helps to understand how these countries work. This is also an aid to peace, because if we know the cultures of other countries it is easier to get to know them and not come to a confrontation with them", added Ibáñez.
This is part of the philosophy of this club, which is also characterised by its collaboration with other social groups. "We have been running for six years, but six very intense years", said the president of Rotary Club Mijas International, Francisco J. Andrada, who added that "very recently we have started working with AFA Mijas, also with Adimi, with Caritas, with the Red Cross and with other NGOs throughout the six years of our history in Mijas". One of the founding members of this club in Mijas is the councillor for Foreigners, who declared that "yes, it is true that in Mijas we are very proud of the official municipal organisation, fundamentally, in the Town Hall, we are always grateful for the work of solidarity organisations such as the Rotary Club, which provide a complementary service to that of the official Town Hall. From now on we will certainly work more with them, as we do with other clubs", Bravo declared.
After the reception at the Mijas Town Hall, the members of the Rotary Club also took the opportunity of the governor's visit to enjoy one of the two lunches that the group organises on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month at the Cerrado del Águila Club. On this occasion, as well as members of the Mijas club, presidents of other Rotary Clubs in Malaga also attended.
