Six thousand euros were raised by the employees of the organisation, with the foundation's commitment to double the amount

Since Tuesday, patients, relatives, volunteers and professionals of the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC) have 12,000 euros more to fight the disease, but, in reality, we all benefit from this initiative of the Idiliq Foundation, as they assure us that this economic injection will be used for research. "This year, we are going to allocate the funds to research, basically, which is very important, because we want 70% of cancers to be curable by 2030", said the president of the AECC in Mijas, Lola Sanchís.

There are many aid programmes carried out by the association, for which the provincial president of the AECC, Joaquín Morales, thanks Idiliq for its constant support because "for us it is a pleasure, it is a luxury to have organisations like Idiliq, which with the background it has, thinks of us on a regular basis every year at a specific time to devote all its efforts to helping us".

The funds have been raised thanks to the charitable actions carried out in recent months by Idiliq staff, such as breakfasts, workshops and charity raffles, and the foundation's commitment to double the amount. "It's a tradition we have at the foundation, also to encourage people a little bit, to say: hey, come on, let's raise as much as possible because every euro you raise is really two, so we have done it that way in recent years; the amount raised has been 6,000 euros, plus the other 6,000 that the foundation has contributed", explained the president of Idiliq, Juan Miguel Marcos.

Institutional support

The mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata (PP), along with other members of the municipal corporation, attended the event. Mata also pledged to continue to support the group, which, she emphasised, does so much good for society. "From the Mijas Town Hall we cannot ignore this reality and we must all work in the same direction so that the Spanish Association Against Cancer has a facility as soon as possible where they can attend to all those people who, at a certain point in their lives, are going through this situation, but also to welcome volunteers, which I know there are many and who want to contribute", said the mayoress.

The councillor for Social Inclusion, Melisa Ceballos (PP), announced greater financial support from the Mijas Town Hall for the Spanish Association Against Cancer and thanked the members of Idiliq for their solidarity. "From Social Inclusion we have added funding so that next year this group will have a little more relief", said Ceballos, who also wanted to thank, "above all, the employees at Wyndham, as, really, they are the ones who make it possible for this fundraising to be carried out".

The presentation of the cheque, which took place in the Grand Lounge San Diego Suites restaurant, Wyndham Hotels & Resorts Mijas Costa, was attended by numerous employees, to whom, as those present at the event said, there is much to thank. Also present were PSOE and Cs councillors from the municipal corporation, who insisted on the importance of continuing to invest in health.

PSOE councillor Laura Moreno pointed out that the AECC "needs a lot of investment and help from the Mijas Town Hall, which cannot let any association down, much less the social associations, which are the ones that carry out the social actions that cannot be carried out by the public administration, for example, due to lack of investment by the Health Department, which is linked to the Andalusian Regional Government".

For her part, the councillor for Cs, Mariló Olmedo, concluded by thanking the Idiliq foundation, "which is always there for whatever Mijas needs, organising all kinds of activities to raise funds for the AECC; Mijas is very supportive and we have to be very proud of the solidarity in Mijas".

The Spanish Association Against Cancer is probably the private organisation that contributes the most money to research. In 2023 alone, it has contributed 26 million euros to this end, because, they say, this alone can stop cancer from being a disease that claims nine million lives a year in the world.
