This morning the mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata (PP), visited the area of Valtocado, one of the areas most affected by the forest fire that broke out in the early hours of yesterday morning in the Paraje de los Condes and which is now stabilised, once the authorities have allowed access to the area.

Mata wanted to know the state of the area that has suffered the most damage from the fire, as well as talk to the residents affected by the fire. In this regard, the mayoress stressed that the fire is being "continuously monitored, remembering that it is at Level 0", controlled but not extinguished.

She also recalled that the Town Hall has set up a support desk so that those who have suffered material damage can receive advice and information. This is located in the citizen's attention offices of the Town Hall in Mijas Pueblo.

Likewise, the mayoress has expressed her intention to review the Municipal Emergency Plan currently in place in Mijas, to analyse the processes and implement any possible modifications deemed necessary.

The fire has burnt some 250 hectares of land. It has also affected one house in its entirety, as well as the perimeters of others and four vehicles.  More than 200 professionals were involved in the extinguishing and coordination of the emergency.

In total, some 300 people had to be evacuated after preventive evacuation of the urbanisations Rincón del Hinojal, Lomas del Flamenco, as well as the northern part of Mijas Golf, specifically, the areas of La Condesa, Lago Mar Golf, Golf Zenit and Pueblo Mijitas, which joined Valtocado urbanisation, which was evacuated earlier in the morning. Late yesterday afternoon, the evicted residents received authorisation to return to their homes.

Similarly, the A-387 road linking Alhaurín el Grande and Fuengirola, which was closed to traffic in both directions between kilometres 0 and 9.5 as a result of the forest fire, has now been opened to traffic.

The Fire Fighting Directorate of the Infoca Plan said yesterday that the fire had spread rapidly, with a strong north-north-westerly wind in the area of between 30 and 35 kilometres per hour, with gusts of up to 60 and 80.
