They are designed to facilitate the transfer of the sick and people with reduced mobility, which is why this chair lift was needed at the AFA Mijas day centre, which works with 25 users on a daily basis.
Thanks to the solidarity of the international Rotary club, it is now theirs. It has cost 900 euros and has been financed by Kevin Birtles, owner of the company PCC Wealth Management, who contributed 500 euros, and by Derek Jones, a member of the Mijas International Rotary club, who added the remaining amount by turning his birthday party into a charity event, exchanging his gifts for financial donations for this purpose.
“Thanks to them, we have been able to purchase this equipment so that both those who work at AFA do not injure their backs when straining themselves, and so that the patients have more dignified care, making it easier and better for everyone”, said the club’s secretary, Katja Range.
At the handover ceremony, which took place on Wednesday 8th of November at the AFA Mijas day centre, another member of the club, Andy Wheaton, said that “The Mijas International Rotary Club is very happy to help AFA, who do a wonderful job, and we are grateful to these gentlemen, who have been able to provide this chair lift, which will help all these people”.
On the other hand, the association was grateful for this gesture, which will be, according to those responsible, “a great help in the daily care of its users”.
“We are going to use it in the bathroom and it is essential to have it here in the centre because it helps the workers, preventing them from injuring themselves when they have to move a highly dependent patient, and it also helps the patients, because the moving and cleaning is done without causing any damage or injury, in an easier way for both the employee and the person being cared for”, said the centre’s director and psychologist, Maria del Carmen Lopez.
The Mijas International Rotary Club also thanked Kevin Birtles for his financial contribution to the purchase of this lift chair, presenting him with a diploma certifying his donation.
