On Sunday, November 5th, the mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata (PP), visited the Torreón de La Cala, a space which, thanks to an agreement signed with the Town Hall, is managed by Afesol Salud Mental Costa del Sol. Mata was accompanied on the visit by the Partido Popular councillors Mario Bravo and Daniel Gómez Teruel, who were welcomed on their arrival by the vice-president of Afesol, Cristian González Cuevas, who thanked the mayoress "for coming to visit us at the Torreón de La Cala, a magnificent place, which we have on loan from Mijas Town Hall to Afesol, and which provides employment for two people with mental health problems and other disabilities from here in the municipality".
"Afesol does exceptional work, inside and outside our municipality and, moreover, we have a firm commitment with them to fulfil a pact for mental health. Now, after covid, we are seeing many problems that affect young and not so young people and this alliance between entities such as Afesol and the Mijas Town Hall has to be maintained, promoted and, above all, try to ensure that these people who have a mental health problem may have this support, not only emotional, but also employability coverage, which sometimes helps to get out of the circle of mental illness", said the Mijas mayor.
In addition to El Torreón, Afesol has a total of 12 employees in different municipal spaces thanks to the collaboration of the Town Hall, such as in the Museum of Miniatures and parking areas. "Besides, we have more agreements with the Mijas Town Hall in the field of Social Services or networking with the tutor agent. It is very important to collaborate closely with the local administrations", said the vice-president of the group. The objective of Afesol is to continue to expand the generation of employment among its users, Cristian González emphasised, "as with this social and health support, all that is missing is that little push which is work, and that is what dignifies people".

The mayoress also highlighted the need to promote the Torreón de La Cala and encouraged the locals not to hesitate to visit it, "we must promote it and make it known, not only to those who come to visit us but also to all those who live in the municipality. Knowing where we come from and knowing our history is also important", said Mata, who took advantage of the visit to enjoy the wonderful views offered by this watchtower from its terrace and raise the national flag together with her colleagues Bravo and Teruel.
