Many residents of the municipality are visiting the cemetery these days to tidy up the graves or niches of their relatives, in preparation for the commemoration of All Saints' Day on Wednesday November 1st. In the cemetery of La Purísima, in Mijas Pueblo, "most of us come the days before to clean, and then on the 31st or the 1st to leave flowers for our loved ones", explained neighbour Ana Díaz on Sunday, adding that "many also come on the 1st to listen to the mass, as well as spending a little time with the family".
Flowers, candles and small details are used these days to express feelings and affection for those who are no longer with us. "In my case, it is a time when I remember my father and mother, who were very important in my life, and that is why I like to come and see them", said another neighbour, Conchi Peinado.
It is a Christian tradition that continues thanks to the elderly, said neighbour Juan Jesús Moreno, "and you only have to look now, we have only older people here, very few young people, it seems that it is not a subject that interests them very much, but we hope that little by little they will get used to it".
