For the fifth consecutive year and on the occasion of International Diabetes Day (14th of November), the Lions Club of La Cala is organising a popular walk to raise awareness about the prevention and control of diabetes, a disease that in Spain alone affects more than five million people, although about 1.5 million are unaware that they suffer from it. 

According to the president of the Lions Club of La Cala, Anne Bowles, "this charity walk began as such in Denmark and has spread to other parts of the world. Here in the municipality, it has been held for the last five years, always with the Plaza del Torreón as the meeting point". 

The event will begin at 10.30 hours with a zumba class to warm up before the walk, although there will also be a later pilates class for stretching. And, between the two classes, there will be numerous entertainment activities, said Ana Belinchón, who belongs to the fencing group of the Lions Club, who announced that "we will be organising both a simple exhibition of this sport and another of historical fencing, which will be very interesting. There will also be live music, a surprise with dogs and a flamenco show. 

The group will also set up tables to provide information on this pathology and will offer free glucose tests, which are essential for detecting hypoglycaemia. The Foreigners and Sports departments of the Mijas Town Hall are once again collaborating in this activity, "so we hope to see you all there, because it will be a very fun morning in which there will be many activities to exercise, to be with family and friends, and to raise awareness about this disease", concluded Laura Cordoba from the Foreigners Department.
