This weekend the residents of La Cala are celebrating, the procession and pilgrimage in honour of Santa Teresa, patron saint of La Cala and a festivity in our municipality. In addition, this time it coincides with the weekend, so a large number of people are expected to participate. A weekend of coexistence and brotherhood. According to the parish priest of La Cala, Juan Baena, "a special date is approaching for the town and especially for the parish. We celebrate the patron saint of our church and patron saint of La Cala de Mijas. This year, as the 15th falls on a Sunday, on Saturday afternoon we will celebrate the Mass for St. Teresa, the floral offering, the presentation of the children who have been born this year to the Saint and then the procession through the streets of the village".
For her part, the councillor for Fiestas, Tamara Vera (PSOE), recalled that "this day will be a holiday in our town. This was decided by popular vote among the local residents, making it a very important festivity for the town of La Cala".
The institutional act will take place on Saturday 14th of October, with the Eucharist at 19:30 hours in the parish church. At around 20:30, it will be time for the procession in honour of the saint through the streets of La Cala, as tradition dictates. According to José Sena, elder brother of the Brotherhood of Santa Teresa, "for us this is a fabulous day, because she is the patron saint of La Cala and we are very proud to celebrate it. The procession will follow the usual route, leaving from the parish church, Marbella street, Cártama street, Ronda street, Torremolinos, Manilva, and back, passing through the boulevard, returning to the parish church. It is a short but very intense route".
On Sunday 15th of October, the traditional pilgrimage will take place, from the parish church to Los Olivos park. There will be mass at 11am, followed by the procession of the saint with the pilgrims to the park. Sena stated: "I think the people are going to turn out to celebrate, because it is the day of the patron saint. The day of the pilgrimage is a big day here, a day for neighbours and for friends to get together".
Next Monday is a public holiday in Mijas, as the local festivity of Santa Teresa on Sunday has been moved to Monday.
