Mijas closes the September hotel occupancy rate at 85.7%

On Thursday morning, the first deputy mayor and councillor for Tourism, José Carlos Martín (Cs), took stock of hotel occupancy in a summer period which he described as "productive" in the city. "We have closed September with a hotel occupancy rate of 85.7 percent, which shows that we continue to be at the head of the favourite destinations in southern Spain. This summer we have broken historical records in this area and we continue to work, not only for the high season, but so that we can grow in the low season," said the councillor.

In this regard, it should be noted that during the summer season the figures have been increasing, with July's figures standing at 90.32 percent and August's at 91.59 percent. All these data offered by the Association of Hotel Entrepreneurs of the Costa del Sol (Aehcos) are to be added to the forecasts for October, which show Benalmádena, Mijas, Málaga city and Marbella as the most sought-after destinations. "For the month of October we are one of the most popular destinations on the Costa del Sol, so the outlook for autumn and winter could be better than last year. We are betting on golf, which is a segment that breaks the seasonality and, now, we are starting to attend international tourism fairs. We are on the rise and that means stability and wealth in jobs related to the sector", says Martín.

The first deputy mayor added that "we will continue to work hand in hand with the entrepreneurs of the sector because these figures are synonymous with jobs in the town and the generation of wealth, not only for the hotels, but also for the shops and restaurants in the surrounding area, so that many Mijas families benefit from the good performance of our tourism industry".

Even so, according to Ahecos, the general trend on the Costa del Sol has declined compared to 2022 because of a drop in domestic tourism due to, according to the hotel association, inflation, increases in mortgage interest rates and the rise in fuel prices. " The fact that we are growing in Mijas in these difficult economic times is testament to the work of the Tourism department. We will continue along the same line to alleviate all these problems so that our industry is not affected", concluded Martín.
