The Lions Club of La Cala continues to organise all kinds of events to help those who need it most. On this occasion, it organised a dinner, last Saturday 30th, at The Green Label restaurant in El Chaparral Golf. An evening in which the attendees, as well as collaborating by donating funds for different causes, could enjoy live music and a raffle with all kinds of prizes.

"The funds we raise tonight will go to many different people. They will go to help children with special needs as well as to support animals, as we are helping several animal shelters. Above all, we aim to help families, as many people come to us asking for support," explained the president of the La Cala Lions Club, Brenda Meredith. However, the network of help sponsored by this organisation goes much further than that. From Caritas, to the Diabetic Group of Mijas, to Alzheimer's patients and their families, to schools. It also finances therapies for people with disabilities and helps victims of disasters outside our borders. "We are also helping in the earthquake in Morocco, these are people who are suffering a lot and the club is preparing vans with boxes of clothes, blankets and other things that these people have lost in this tragedy", said Mercy Chapman, collaborator of the Lions Club of La Cala.

In order to carry out this charitable work, the club has many sources of funding. As well as dinners such as the one on Saturday 30th, it has charity shops, participates in the street market organised by the Department for Foreigners on the last Wednesday and Saturday of each month on the square in front of the Branch Offices in La Cala and promotes initiatives such as the 'walkathon' along the Coastal Path which will take place on the 5th of November. Shane Oshea, from the company Elissimo Events, organiser of the event on Saturday 30th, said that "the organisation is fantastic, the 'lions' of La Cala do an amazing job. We really need them.

And the club is constantly thinking up new actions to continue its work to help. Ahead of Christmas, on November 26th, they are already organising a Christmas market where they will hand out gifts among the children.
