As in any house, the schools in Mijas are also cleaned thoroughly. The Department for Education takes advantage of the school holidays to do this four times a year, one of them in the summer. In this way, just a few days before school starts again, the schools undergo a thorough cleaning so that everything is impeccable when it is time to welcome the students. Not only is the interior cleaned, but the exterior is also given a good facelift. 

"Today, we are visiting the cleaning of the playgrounds. Everything is thoroughly cleaned before the school year starts, the sports fields, the playgrounds... in other words, all the outdoor playgrounds. Also the fences, outdoor furniture, such as rubbish bins or children's playground equipment. Everything is thoroughly cleaned, just like we do at home", said the councillor responsible for Education, Mariló Olmedo (Cs).

Daily cleaning of the playgrounds
This work is carried out four times a year during non-school periods: 'Semana Blanca' (Half Term), Easter, Summer and Christmas. In addition, in the case of the playgrounds, cleaning is done daily once the school year begins, according to the councillor: "Our concierges open the schools early, at half past seven in the morning, and one of their priority tasks is to clean the playground so that everything is clean when the children arrive". The aim is for the children to enjoy their outdoor activities in a dirt-free environment; to this end, the concierges "sweep, empty rubbish bins, clean and if there is anything dirty it is cleaned thoroughly", she added.
