The Peña Caballista de Mijas organised a new Full Moon Equestrian Route on Saturday 2nd of September. The starting point was the El Esparragal park and from there, through El Chaparral, they started a circular route along the surrounding tracks. On the way back, they enjoyed a flamenco show. More than 80 horses and 100 participants took part in this activity.
The love for horses in Mijas is undeniable. The route on horseback went along the river Las Pasadas, the plain of Los Borricos, the area of La Alberquilla, up to the high part of La Roza del Aguado until reaching Cerros del Águila, with several stops along the way. The return journey was via Venta La Morena to El Esparragal park.
According to the president of the peña, Juan López-Ayala, "there were beautiful moments, the atmosphere was very good, apart from the camaraderie, with the horses and in our wonderful municipality. A route through these mountains and along these paths is fantastic, you have a great time and it's really magical". For his part, the councillor for Agriculture, Livestock, Hunting and Fishing, Juan Carlos Maldonado (PMP), said that "this is an activity organised by the 'Peña Caballista', who are the ones who know about horses and their importance to Mijas. We have a very large equine census, practically more than Jerez and, therefore, we have to make the most of it, not only to enjoy it, which is also important on a day like today for socialising and leisure, but also for the economic possibilities that it can bring to the municipality and also for promotion".
The day of coexistence enjoyed a very good atmosphere, with many participants and the weather did not spoil the ride. Some of the participants, such as Manuel Frías, assured that "we always like to take part in the world of horses and whenever we can and we have space, we like to join in with the routes that they organise. Since we are looking after and maintaining the horses all year round, we like to enjoy them when we can". Miriam Gámez declared that "it has been very good, to be honest. Last year I was there too and it was great. I've been riding horses since I was little, it has always attracted my attention and there is a very special connection with the animal". José Padilla came with his whole family to enjoy the day.
The route enjoyed a spectacular full moon and an autumn sunset that provided the participants with unforgettable views of the Mijas landscape.
Projects
Maldonado took advantage of his participation in this event to advance the next agreements and collaborations that his council wants to maintain with this club. "We are going to listen to them, we are going to establish a timetable, a plan, within the budgets, according to the needs they have and the activities they are planning", he explained.
For their part, the 'Peña Caballista' are very excited about these meetings and are already drawing up a road map for activities and events for the coming year. According to López-Ayala, "we are going to make a plan of what we can do for next year's budgets and make a roadmap for the year, we intend to value horses in the way they really should be in Mijas, and that is the dialogue, which we think is fantastic and we are going to support it". Maldonado, for his part, added that "as well as improving infrastructure, facilities, road repairs, and security, it is also important to address the industry around the horse, to give it all that promotional support that also allows it to become a firm and decisive sector of activity. This also generates jobs and establishes a sustainable industry in our area in order to develop the rural environment".
