The Mijas Fair is counting down the hours to kick off six days of festivities in honour of the patron saint of the municipality, the Virgen de la Peña. From September 5th to 10th, the white village will be dressed in colour to host a programme that combines music, traditions and gastronomy for the enjoyment of locals and visitors alike.
"Once again, we are about to experience the most special days of our calendar. Because in Mijas, September is named after a woman, our patron saint, the Virgen de la Peña, and we will dedicate six days of celebrations to her, which will reach its peak on the 8th of September, a local public holiday, when our perpetual mayoress will again be taken out in procession through the streets of the village", said the mayor of Mijas, Josele González (PSOE), who emphasised the "family and open nature of our fair, in which more than 120 nationalities live together and enjoy days of leisure with their families".
For her part, the councillor for Festivities, Tamara Vera (PSOE), stressed that "from the delegation for Festivities we have prepared a programme in which our most deeply-rooted traditions will not be lacking, such as the inflatable bulls, the election of the king and queen, the bicycle route and the chocolate party, the bike route or the chocolate and fritters of the day fair" and wanted to thank Cristóbal Gambero "the emotional proclamation with which we have launched our festivities and the young artist Juanjo Marín from Mijas for his talent painting the poster for this year's Fair".
