We have an eventful start to September for everyone in Mijas

  • On Friday 1st and Saturday 2nd of September the municipality will host many activities
  • Starting at 17:30 hours, the participants will set off from El Esparragal on Saturday 2nd of September.

Flamenco, painting and photographic exhibitions, the Equestrian Route and Donkey Dreamland, will keep us occupied in our free time this weekend

To kick off the month of September, on Friday the 1st the Peña Flamenca 'El Gallo' is organising the 'Peña en Peña' (Club to Club) circuit as part of its Verano Flamenco (Flamenco Summer). Consuelo Soto Torres, flamenco singer, better known as Chelo Soto, will be on vocals. The Malaga-born singer has already demonstrated her art and talent on the national and international flamenco scene. On the other hand, Ismael Rueda, a 'virtuoso' guitarist who began playing flamenco guitar at the age of eleven and combines the instrument with singing and dancing, will be on guitar. The show will start at 21:30 on Friday night at Camino de las Cañadas 1-A.

The Cultural Centre at La Cala de Mijas will also be hosting the exhibition 'Mujeres Afganas' (Afghan Women) on Friday 1st of September. The aim of this exhibition is to make visible the harassment suffered by Afghan women and girls and the courage of those who continue to demand their rights. It will be inaugurated at 20:00.

In addition, the photographic exhibition 'En Privado' by Jesús Jaime Mota at Colectivo Imagen will be inaugurated on the occasion of its 40th anniversary. This can be enjoyed from Friday 1st of September to October 2nd. This time they have chosen works from the artist's private collections or from the group's own photographic library. This exhibition is a tribute to this master photographer from Mijas, who passed away in 2011. The compilation of images can be enjoyed at the Sala Colectivo Imagen during its opening hours on Mondays and Wednesdays, from 19:30 to 21:30 and Fridays, from 20:00 to 22:00.

To begin on Saturday 2nd, the autumn bazaar will be held in aid of Donkey Dreamland. It will be set up outside the Snack Attack and Tuta bars (Jardín Botánico urbanisation, La Cala) and will run from 11:00 to 16:00 hours. On the day there will be raffles, music, food and a street market. Tickets for the lunch cost 10 euros and are available from the La Cala Lions Club charity shop and Bar Tuta. For more information telephone 607 87 94 50.

There will also be a Full Moon Equestrian Route. The activity will start at 17:30 hours at El Esparragal Park. There will be a horseback ride along the paths through El Chaparral. During the ride there will be drinks and tapas for the riders. On arrival back at El Esparragal there will be a flamenco show from ten at night. For more information call 615 01 88 43.
