For the 43rd day, the Mijas Fair Race became the best gateway to the festivities. Entire families participating in the various categories and distances, elite athletes repeating, many others who made their debut in the race and will return, to turn the race into a big family event. "It is an activity with a long tradition in our municipality, and with successful participation with over 500 athletes, we have to thank all those who have worked hard to make it possible, also the collaborating companies", said Tamara Vera, councillor for Sports (PSOE).
From ten o'clock in the morning, there were different starts and finishes with the categories from the smallest to the joint starts, from U-18 up to the master category athletes. The absolute winners were Marina Jiménez, among the women, and Pablo Comino, in the men's category. Both agreed that they appreciated "the sporting atmosphere, the course and the organisation of the race". At the end of the morning, there were medals for all participants up to U-16; trophies for the top three finishers in each category, discount vouchers for sports equipment for the top absolute finishers and a race T-shirt.
In addition, 1,200 euros were distributed, thanks to the company Hyundai-Automóviles Nieto, in sports equipment among the prizes for the most outstanding athletes of the town and the winner, Noa Aguilera, a year of follow-up in the physiotherapy clinic Fisioli de Mijas. "The balance is very positive, both in terms of the number of registered participants, as I have to admit that at the beginning I was pessimistic but then everything went well and despite the heat, the change of dates, and so on, we have exceeded 500 registered participants which I think is something to feel very satisfied about", concluded Francis Aguilera, organizer of the event.
