According to the magazine 'International Living', a publication specialising in the analysis of destinations for foreign retired people, Mijas is among the five most recommended municipalities for "living and retiring" in Spain. Also in our province are Benalmádena, Almuñécar (Granada), Sitges (Barcelona) and Miraflores de la Sierra (Madrid). "We are proud that a magazine such as 'International Living' and the website www.eleconomista.es have highlighted Mijas as one of the best places for retirees to retire. As we all know, Mijas has a high rate of foreigners and many of them after working all their lives and when their pension arrives they decide on a place for a holiday for life, and that place is Mijas", said the councillor for Foreigners in Mijas, Roy Pérez (PSOE).
The magazine highlights Mijas' "beauty, climate and sport", as well as other attractions that make it "unique and special", according to International Living: "Why Mijas? Because Mijas has everything: it has the sea, the mountains, sport, in the end it is a quality of life that for many people after working all their lives, they decide to come to Spain. Other factors are the infrastructures that our municipality has. But, above all, these natural landscapes, the coastal path, the 14 kilometres of beach, the mountains...", added the councillor.
Not surprisingly, 40% of the population of Mijas is made up of registered foreigners of 125 different nationalities, the vast majority of whom are British, Scandinavian and German. "By nationality we are still in the top ranking of British, we have almost 10,000 residential inhabitants from the United Kingdom, we are leaders, one of the municipalities where there are more British is in Mijas, despite Brexit. There was much uncertainty, but that population index has not declined, it has been maintained, it is even rising and they continue to have all the advantages", concluded the councillor for Foreigners.
