The Guardia Civil, in what is known as Operation Botu, has arrested a woman in La Cala de Mijas for carrying out cosmetic treatments at her home without the required qualifications. The investigation began after receiving five complaints from people who claimed to have received cosmetic treatments with botox or hyaluronic acid, among other substances, which had caused them various injuries for which they had to be treated in hospitals in the province of Malaga.
The investigators, from the Civil Guard in Malaga, verified that the alleged professional did not have a medical degree, nor was she registered in medicine, these being the necessary requirements to be able to carry out this type of treatment and to be able to acquire the medicines to be supplied.
In the search of her home, 3,400 units of Botox, one kilo of hyaluronic acid, various vials containing injectable medicines and innumerable sanitary tools such as hypodermic needles, syringes, etc. were also seized. These medicines were stored in the refrigerator in her kitchen, without the slightest hygienic-sanitary conditions and together with the rest of the foodstuffs.
Investigations are continuing into whether the arrested woman acquired the medicines via the internet from other countries, and whether they complied with the relevant health requirements. The woman has been arrested for alleged crimes of professional intrusion, injuries and crimes against public health.
