The mayor of Mijas, Josele González, considers it "one of the best fairs on the Costa del Sol"

La Cala said goodbye to its fair in style, with a packed municipal booth ready to enjoy the free concert by Andy y Lucas. The Cadiz locals put the finishing touch to five days of festivities, held from July the 26th to the 30th, where the large influx of visitors has been the protagonist.

"The Fair of La Cala closes one of its best editions thanks to the large influx of visitors that we have had the five days of festivities both at the fairground and at El Torreón, where our day fair has taken place", says the mayor of the town, Josele González (PSOE), who has highlighted that "this fair has become in its own right one of the best fairs on the Costa del Sol, being a window of leisure and fun for all ages, who have been able to enjoy safe festivities thanks to the extensive security arrangements we have put in place".

For her part, the councillor for Festivities, Tamara Vera (PSOE), has highlighted how the fair of La Cala "grows year after year thanks to the love and involvement of the locals themselves, who are 100% involved in the development of both the day and night fairs. Our festivities are an example of coexistence, respect and fun and this has also been demonstrated in this unforgettable edition for everyone".

The La Cala Fair kicked off with the traditional parade of giants and big-heads, which filled the streets of La Cala with magic. A procession that would be the perfect prelude to everything that took place on the opening day with the inauguration of the lights, Children's Day with attractions at reduced prices and the election of the king and queen, whose crowns this year went to the young Adrián Romero and María Mérida. Once again, the fairground had noise and music-free hours every day in the attractions areas so that children with special needs could enjoy the fair without acoustic barriers.

Concerts

The programme also included the traditional dinner in homage to the elderly, in which some 260 elderly people took part, the election of children's kings and 'babys' with fifty participants, and the full house at the municipal booth with free concerts by Andy and Lucas, Celtas Cortos, Antonio Carmona and José Ortega 'Manzanita'. The good atmosphere and the large number of people also made their presence felt at the day fair in El Torreón, where groups such as Rompeolas and A compás got the crowds dancing.

Security

Some 80 officers from the Mijas Local Police, 50 Civil Protection volunteers, medical staff (ambulance), Red Cross and a fire brigade were on hand to ensure the safety of those attending the fair, a comprehensive security system that made it possible to finish the festivities without any major incidents.

Finally, it is worth mentioning the violet point that the Department for Equality and Diversity installed at the fairground on Friday and Saturday at the fair, as well as the #Portuseguridad campaign by Civil Protection, which offered free identification bracelets to prevent the loss or disorientation of children, the elderly or groups at risk.
