The drought continues to seriously affect the Western Costa del Sol and with the aim of reducing the consumption of drinking water by at least 10% and guaranteeing its supply to the population, the Mijas Town Hall has just adopted a series of urgent measures through a municipal decree.
This prohibits the use of drinking water for irrigation of golf courses and filling of private swimming pools, with the exception of the minimum refilling of currently filled pools, due to the gradual depletion of the water level and which is necessary to allow the filtration process to operate. Car washing outside authorised establishments, ornamental fountains that do not have a closed water circuit, public showers and fountains, as well as any other non-essential use, are also prohibited.
On the other hand, the frequency of weekly actions is limited, as well as the intensity of water used in the irrigation of gardens, orchards, parks or green areas, both public and private, as well as in the washing down of roads, streets, pavements, façades or any other surface, both public and private, promoting the maximum use of reclaimed water.
The local authority asks the public to cooperate in the responsible and efficient use of drinking water, checking for leaks and implementing measures to reduce drinking water consumption in the private sector. They also anticipate that these local measures could be extended depending on the evolution of the situation of drought.
