With 80 members, the Cala club, on the occasion of the festivities of the fishing village, organised a tournament in which a total of six triples took part, three from La Cala and three from the pétanque clubs of Marbella and Elviria. The competition concluded last Monday 24th of July at La Butibamba park. "We wanted to organise something to celebrate the fair, this is the first edition and we hope to continue organising it in the coming years", said the president of the La Cala de Mijas Petanca Club, Miguel Benítez.
The trio from La Cala, formed by Manuel González, Anamari Gómez and Jorge Liñán, reached the semi-finals, while the trio from Elviria was proclaimed champion of this first edition of the Fair Trophy. "We have lived the tournament with emotion and, in the end, we have come out victorious, winning", declared the captain of the Elviria Petanca Club, Mari Carmen Vega, who acknowledged that this is the first time she has played on the La Cala court, "which you have to get the hang of" when throwing the ball at the height of the bowling alley.
