People with reduced mobility can enjoy the summer on the adapted beaches

  • They are located in La Cala, El Bombo, Royal Beach-La Luna and El Chaparral, which also have the blue flag distinction

'Mijeños', visitors and tourists with reduced mobility can enjoy the four adapted beaches of the municipality.

This adapted area is used by around 25 people per day.

The service is offered from 11 to 20 hours.

For yet another year, four beaches in the municipality have services for bathers with functional diversity

People with reduced mobility also want to have an idyllic summer, that is why Mijas offers them a dream summer season to enjoy without restrictions on the four beaches of the municipality that have adapted bathing areas. Mijas Comunicación wanted to get a closer look at these areas by visiting the Torreón beach in La Cala. One of the users of this adapted area, Paqui Acedo, pointed out that "thank God we have town halls that care about disabled people and we can make use of these facilities. All these spaces are very well adapted, so I recommend them to all those who need them, as they can have a good summer", to which she added that "in addition, there are very nice people here to look after us".

For her part, María Antequera always accompanies her husband to this place because, according to her, "it's wonderful here. I come with my husband, who is in a wheelchair, and we are treated very well here. The lifeguards and staff are a joy", said this new resident of Mijas, who has only been living here for three months. "I'm crazy to get away from it all and come here", continued María, adding with a laugh that "we arrive in the morning, in the afternoon and we stay here until they throw us out".

And as this particular morning the yellow flag was flying on this beach in Mijas, the users have been able to enjoy the shaded area but not the sea: "By protocol", explained the coordinator of the Rescue and Lifeguard service in Malaga, Gonzalo Botta, "when there is a yellow flag we cannot offer the bathing service itself, but we give the users the possibility of assistance, which is to go with them to the shore and at least get their feet wet or throw buckets of water on them so that they can also stay cool on days when the sea is rough".

Four adapted beaches in Mijas

In addition to El Torreón, in La Cala, the other three beaches with adapted bathing areas for people with reduced mobility are El Bombo, Royal Beach-La Luna and El Chaparral, which also have the blue flag badge, as well as the 9 Q flags for Quality, the ISO 14001 certificate, the blue path, the blue centre and the recognition of the lifeguard and lifeguard team. This year the users are also enjoying improvements in this type of facilities. "We are proud of the fact that the Town Hall has renovated all the accessibility facilities both in La Cala, which is the main area, and in some other adapted bathing areas, replacing the fixtures with new ones and installing new pergolas and stalls", said Botta, who added that with this renovation "we can also accommodate many more users, as the influx is much greater in summer, it means that we can provide the service to everyone".

According to its coordinator, this adapted area caters to around 25 users a day. The service covers Easter and some weekends in May, and will be active until the end of September and every weekend in October, from 11am to 8pm.
