The Local Police in Mijas have vacated nearly fifty properties so far this year

  • In the summer period alone, the Special Housing Eviction Unit of the Local Police cleared a dozen properties
  • The Mijas Local Police have vacated nearly fifty properties so far this year

These operations have been carried out thanks to the field work carried out by this unit on a daily basis

The Housing Eviction Unit of the Mijas Local Police, created just a year and a half ago in the town, recently took stock of the work carried out in the first half of the year. This work has resulted in the eviction during these months of around fifty properties that were inhabited without authorisation.

These actions have been carried out thanks to the field work carried out by this unit on a daily basis and in which communication with the parties involved plays, according to the government team, "a key role, as does the collaboration with the citizens of Mijas. On many occasions it is the owners of the occupied property who report these alerts to the operational base of the force.

In this regard, the local government recalls that the protocol of action of the agents of the Unit for Housing Eviction, after receiving a complaint about this type of situation, includes the immediate appearance on site to check 'in situ' the occupation of the property. After this, they proceed to interview the owner of the property and identify the individual or individuals allegedly responsible for the offence of squatting, who are then taken to the Guardia Civil and brought before the courts.

This control work has been intensified especially in the areas of urbanisations, which are more prone to this type of illegal practices due to their singularities. With a staff of around 150 officers, the Mijas Local Police "watches over the security of a municipality of 149 kilometres and 93,000 inhabitants distributed in three population centres, suburban areas and urbanisations. A complex job for which the Town Hall continues to invest daily through numerous improvements in the force, such as the reinforcement of the staff or the fleet of vehicles available to the agents", states the government team.

Finally, the Local Police remind us that in any case of occupation of a property you can contact the police directly on 952 46 08 08 or 952 46 09 09 or by calling 112.
