Today we meet Laurence Carez, a woman of Belgian origin who, seven years ago, decided to buy an old property in Entrerríos (Mijas) to convert it into five small holiday rental properties, known in tourist accommodation search engines as La Careza. Curiously, and at the suggestion of a friend, last year she also ventured to participate in the television programme 'Coup de foudre au bout du monde', which in Spanish translates as 'Love at first sight at the end of the world', starring singles from different countries who want to change their lives. "It's a programme in which they choose five profiles, one from each continent, and I was lucky enough to represent Europe, here in Spain and in Mijas", she says proudly.
The experience was great fun, says Laurence, who hosted her three suitors in Mijas, sharing different dates with them for a little over a week. "The idea of this programme also revolves around choosing places with charm so that those who see it dream of coming here and changing their lives, living, for example, in a rural area, as in my case", explains the participant.
This reality show has already been broadcast on French television and this Saturday it will be shown on Belgian television, so we can't tell you if love has finally triumphed in Mijas. "I can only say that I am not single now. I have a partner but I can't say if it was because of the programme or afterwards", she says.
What is clear is that for Laurence it was also "love at first sight" for our municipality and, specifically, this enclave in Entrerríos, her current place of residence and work. "The first years were complicated, above all because of the language, because the house was old and I had to do a lot of work", she admits, "but now I am delighted with my homes, each one with its own style, and I really enjoy decorating and looking for all kinds of pieces in flea markets and boot sales to fill my homes with charm and make a difference".
Travellers, mainly from Holland, but also from other parts of Europe and Asia choose this accommodation in Entrerríos every week to spend their holidays, " seeking, above all, the peace and quiet of the area, the silence, all the nature we have around us and, in addition, we are also only 15 minutes from the beach in La Cala", she points out.
Thanks to this Belgian resident and this programme, Mijas has been promoted in France and Belgium, and we are sure that more than one viewer has decided to visit our municipality after viewing it.
