The State Meteorological Agency activates the red alert tomorrow on the Costa del Sol

  • The temperature is expected to reach 42 degrees between 13:00 and 21:00 hours
  • This heatwave is caused by the rise of a warm mass of air from North Africa

A yellow alert for maximum temperatures has also been activated for Thursday, but this time the mercury is not expected to rise above 38 degrees

The AEMET (State Meteorological Agency) has raised the alert level for tomorrow. A red alert has been activated in the Costa del Sol region, as well as throughout the province of Malaga, for Wednesday 19th, from 13:00 to 21:00 hours. This alert warns of extreme risk, with temperatures that may reach 42 degrees. In addition, for Thursday there is also a yellow alert for maximum temperatures, but this time it is expected that the mercury will not rise above 38 degrees. The alert will also be active between 13:00 and 21:00 on Thursday. The population is asked to take extreme precautions and take the appropriate measures to alleviate this heat wave that will affect Malaga over the next two days.

This heatwave is caused by the rise of a mass of warm air from North Africa which will drive a southerly wind that will also bring with it a heatwave.

The forecast is that we will have winds from the southwest at first and then, as usual in Mijas, late on Wednesday evening, they will change to Terral, which means that in the early hours of Wednesday to Thursday morning it will be difficult for the temperature to drop below 30ºC .

Experts remind us that we are in the "heatwave" period, which is a meteorological term that refers to the hottest time of the year in a certain area. In the case of Spain, this is from the 15th of July until the 15th of August, since, statistically, this is the period when temperatures are usually the highest.
