This July the melodies of 'Music in the Courtyard' are once again the protagonists at the Folk Museum in Mijas Village. This Friday the 7th will start with a performance by Isabel Guerrero, daughter of flamenco singer, Cristobal Guerrero, better known as 'Barquerito de Fuengirola'. This show will start at 21:00 and admission will be free until full capacity is reached. Two more performances are expected this month on the 21st and 28th by Jazz Starry Band and Rock LGangsters, respectively.
On Friday, the Valtocado Neighbourhood Association's days of coexistence in honour of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception will begin on July 7th, 8th and 9th. On these days there will be live music, popular games for children, comedians and a pilgrimage, among others, spread over the different days. The meeting point for these activities will be the headquarters of the association itself.
To put the finishing touch to this first Friday of July you can enjoy the group Baila Conmigo during the 'Vive Mijas de noche' 2023 in La Cala. The meeting, as always, will take place in La Butibamba Park at ten o'clock at night.
Solidarity
To continue with the programme, on Saturday 8th the Spanish Association Against Cancer of Fuengirola-Mijas will hold its annual charity gala dinner at the Hotel La Zambra Resort Mijas (formerly Byblos). The event will start at 21:00 hours. The entrance fee is 100 euros per person and will include the menu and a harmonious evening with performances. Seating is limited. Flamenco
On the same day, the XV Villa de Mijas Flamenco Festival will take place, paying tribute to guitarist Paco Cepero. The event will take place this Saturday, 8th of July, at 22:30 hours, at the Municipal Auditorium in Mijas Pueblo. After being revived last year, following almost three decades without being held, this coming Saturday will see the fifteenth edition.Entrance is free until all seats are taken.
Summer 'Verbenas' (Fêtes)
To finish off this weekend's events, the "Convivencia Blanca Lagunera" will also be held in the Fernán Caballero Park at 12:00 noon. There will be dance performances, raffles, K1 exhibitions and paella. There will also be an election of Miss and Mister for children and adults, and if you dress in white, at night you can enjoy a free mojito. In addition to this event there will be a sardine feast organised by the María Barranco Neighbourhood Association on Saturday night. As you can see, Mijas offers a very entertaining weekend.
